Many of you probably went to career day at Mines today and possibly talked to Vestas, a world leader in wind turbines. Here's a tribute to my hometown of Pueblo, CO. This video explains a little bit about how the turbines are made and the facility there.
Many of you probably didn't know that this wind farm existed, but it's a good place for one as it's windy throughout much of the year in the eastern plains.
Do you feel that wind turbines are a viable option as an alternative energy source? Where do they rank in comparison to solar, geothermal, hydroelectric power, etc.?
ReplyDeleteAfter working for a power companing for two summers, my thoughts on wind energy change drastically. I am not saying we should not use wind energy as a substitue, but it takes a lot of wind turbines to replace a single coal fired power plant. I think it is going to take all types of energy and renewable energy to supply the demand for energy in the future.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you. Wind power currently has too many limitations to provide the stable base of power that coal, nuclear and natural gas are able to provide.
ReplyDeleteNate--so these are good comments you received, and suggest that folks are interested in talking more about the politics of wind--engaging on this topic more will only generate more interest, I think.
